Building for peace in Leeds

Ratnasambhava Buddhist Center is dedicated to benefiting the people of Leeds - here's how we can help it flourish.

“Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world.” - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

For many years the students of the Kadam classes in Leeds had the wish to establish a full-time public Buddhist Centre to serve the whole city. We have now bought a beautiful property in Oakwood which is ideal for this purpose.

Kadampa Buddhist Centres belong to all living beings and are established for the purpose of helping them find lasting peace and happiness. NKT Centres are all under the guidance of the highly-respected meditation master and author, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, and follow a constitution drawn up by him to ensure the purity and authenticity of the activities they organize.

The Buddhist Centre in Leeds can now provide:
  • A spiritual oasis of peace and harmony in a troubled world    * An established presence in the city, helping us to reach many more people
  • Meditation room, library, bookshop and World Peace Café open for use throughout the week
  • The opportunity to spend time with spiritual friends whenever you wish
  • A growing number of study programmes, drop-in classes and chanted meditations
  • Retreats, courses and empowerments throughout the year
  • Classes for all age groups and levels of interest

The centre in Oakwood can now start to offer:

  • A stable ‘mother centre’ from which to help current and future branches to grow
  • The facilities to train qualified Dharma Teachers for this purpose
  • A base from which to offer school visits, hospital chaplaincy, etc
  • Beautiful meditation rooms
  • Visible location on a main road 2.5 miles from Leeds City Centre and very close to the popular and beautiful Roundhay Park
  • Accommodation for 11 residents and the Teacher  - so far eight people live here, with space for three more
  • Easy access by public transport
  • Disabled access (we are currently fundraising to get this in place)
  • Organic food and Dharma Shop

Making money meaningful

“Distracting enjoyments have no essence, therefore sincerely practise giving.” - Atisha

“From giving comes wealth ...” - Nagarjuna

“Continuous drops of water falling into a pot will make it full. First there is one drop, then two, three, four, until the pot is overflowing.” - Buddha

Resources take on great meaning when they are used in the service of others. What greater service can we give than to help people along the liberating path to permanent freedom and peace?

Please give what you can comfortably afford by helping in one of these ways:

  • Make a donation
  •  Set up a monthly standing order
  •  Make an interest free loan
  • Give a day’s income each month
  • Pledge to give at a later date
