Are all the centres in the New Kadampa Tradition the same?
The New Kadampa Tradition has many centres around the world, and while they share a common foundation, each one is unique.
All centres follow the same core structure, offering Buddha’s teachings through the three study programmes — the General Programme, Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme — and operating in accordance with the Internal Rules of the NKT. This shared framework helps maintain consistency and unity across the tradition.
At the same time, each centre is independently registered and shaped by the culture, needs and legal requirements of its local community. Centres vary widely in size and setting, including Kadampa Buddhist Centres, Kadampa Meditation Centres, modern city-centre spaces, International Retreat Centres and Kadampa World Peace Temples. Many also have branch classes in surrounding areas.
Some centres include a bookshop, café or social space; some have resident communities; and some offer accommodation for retreats or special events.
Whether large or small, every centre aims to be a peaceful, welcoming place where people can learn to meditate, find inspiration in Buddha’s teachings, connect with others on a similar path and develop a wish to benefit others.
